I graduated from English lit, worked as a writer for some years, then also looked for a regular gig - something with little impression management, real work, with real integrity. Working as a psych nurse often feels like improv commedy/tragedy. Improv where the line is drawn somewhere for safety - at work, I try to dull things down for the sake of that, in theatre, the safety is there, and the energy is free to go exploring.
