ONE, by Jason Carnew

”ONE” a stunning piece of theatrical magic.

“Probably my favourite of all the plays I saw this year…squarely on the side of ingenious  –VUE Magazine (Edmonton)

**Nominated for 4 Betty Mitchell Awards (2010), including Best Production & Best Direction**

ONE is a visually stunning re-imagining of the Orpheus and Eurydice myth that follows the desperate journey of Philistine; a librarian whose devoted search for a lover ‘lost at sea’ takes her beyond the living world, and into the strange and all-consuming world of the dead.  Through wild choreography, poetic language, innovative design and evocative soundscape ONE delivers an experience that is at once an engaging narrative and a sensory adventure.

ONE recently toured to Tricklock Theatre’s 2010 Revolutions International Theatre Festival, in Albuquerque New Mexico, and just completed a critically acclaimed run in Calgary, as part of the Ghost River Theatre’s 2010/11 Season.

REVIEWS (Selected)

“Alas, the Tricklock Revolutions International Theatre Festival (Albuquerque, New Mexico) has wrapped up another year and we must simply wait until next January. But they saved the best for last. “One” was truly one of the most magical, memorable productions I have seen in a very long time. Few companies so deftly use sound, movement, lighting and acting to draw us into an alternate universe as RedtoBlue Performance from Edmonton, Canada, does with this play.” – Duke City Fix, Albuquerque, NM

“…one of the most striking pieces of theatre I have ever seen.” –Jeff Kubik, FFWD (Calgary)

“There’s theatre that insists on being explained and argued about. And there’s theatre that washes over you like a half remembered dream… resonant, lyrical, and powerfully accessible.” – Liz

“ONE’s” many striking moments of imagery are excellent. [And it’s] lit and dressed as great as it sounds, and it sounds GREAT! A beautiful, poetic show.  – Calgary Herald 4.5 star review
